This policy explains what personal data we collect through this website and through donations, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It is published under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and is intended to meet the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
2. What we collect
When you contact us
Your name, email address, the topic you choose and your message.
When you apply to volunteer
Your name, phone number, email address, the area you would like to help with, your availability and anything you tell us about yourself.
When you donate
Your name, address, PAN, the amount, the date and the bank transaction reference. We need these to issue your 80G receipt and to report donations to the Income Tax Department as the law requires. We do not ask for, and you should never send us, your card number, PIN, OTP or net-banking password.
When you visit the website
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies or analytics. Like any website, our hosting provider records basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to keep the site running and secure. The website loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers.
3. Why we use it
- To reply to your message or volunteer application.
- To issue donation receipts and meet our legal obligations under the Income-tax Act and the Companies Act.
- To tell you about our events and work, only if you have agreed to this.
- To keep the website secure and prevent misuse.
We collect your data with your consent when you submit a form or send us donation details, or where the law requires us to keep it. We only collect what we need for these purposes.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We share it only:
- with the Income Tax Department and other authorities, where the law requires it (for example, statements of donations received);
- with our bank, to process and reconcile donations;
- with service providers who host the website, run our forms or provide email, and who may only use the data to provide that service to us;
- when required by a court order or other legal process.
5. How long we keep it
We keep donation and financial records for as long as tax and company law require, generally up to eight years. We keep contact and volunteer details for as long as we are in touch with you, and delete them within two years after our last contact, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
6. How we protect it
We use reasonable security practices to protect your data, including access limited to authorised members of our team, password-protected accounts and encrypted (HTTPS) connections to this website. No system is completely secure, but if a breach affects your data, we will inform you and the authorities as the law requires.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
- correct, complete or update it;
- delete it, where we are not legally required to keep it;
- stop using it for any purpose you previously agreed to, by withdrawing your consent at any time.
You may also nominate another person to exercise these rights for you in case of death or incapacity. To make a request, contact our grievance officer below.
